This project explores the geographical mobility and interregional interactions of Han officials, which will be mapped onto GIS platforms for spatial analysis. Based on primary sources and structured biographical data, it will advance our understanding of the integration and disintegration of the early Chinese empires from a holistic approach. It will also help explain significant changes in Han political and social history, including the importance of traveling for officials’ careers, the consequences of moving to the capital for powerful local families, and the patterns of interactions among different regions.
